Life the best choice By Pastor Joe

On Wednesday, May 11th, the US Senate voted to end debate concerning Senate Bill 4132. Women’s Health Protection Act. This was the first step of Congress to officially make abortions legal in all 50 states up to the moment of a full-term child ready to be delivered. Thankfully the bill was defeated on a procedural issue 51-49. This debate was started because of another recent news story which has potential life changing ramifications. Most of us are aware of the recent leak of documents from the Supreme Court on a case involving late term abortions. The document which was leaked revealed the plans of the Supreme Court to overrule the Roe V Wade decision as unconstitutional and having no merit as the legal standing authorizing abortions up to the point of delivery of a full-term baby. This is the first time in the history of rulings which come from the Supreme Court of a “leaked” draft document prior to the official release of the ruling. 1852 is the last time any official document had been leaked to the public from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has a very secure system of making sure drafts and final rulings are kept classified until they are officially released. Many opinions have been given as to why this took place. The most obvious is the historic change which will take place concerning abortions in the United States. Let’s be very clear that the Abortion Issue is not first a political issue. The Right to Life is a God issue, a God ordained blessing which provides mankind the ability to even have an existence. God breathed life into the dust from the ground which became the first living being. You can read about it in Genesis 2:7. Ultimately the Right to Life has become a political issue because mankind must justify his disobedience to God’s sovereignty by enacting laws which soothe our guilty conscience. Roe V Wade is one of the best examples of this violation. Do our hearts go out to women who find themselves pregnant and not by choice? These are not easy situations to navigate. There is much anguish, shame, regret, bitterness and fear of what an unknown future holds for a new mother. The facts concerning abortions in the United States need to be considered, because what the media tells you is primarily “Fake News”. Less than 2% of all abortions performed fall in the category of victims of rape and incest. Over 98% of all abortions fall into the category of mothers choosing not to be pregnant, with no underlying medical condition. It’s purely a choice. The majority of OB-GYN doctors agree there are almost no reasons today for an abortion to be performed on a normal pregnancy to save the life of the mother. Ectopic pregnancies have always been considered not viable and they do not fall into the category of saving the life of the mother. This is not an easy subject to discuss. Most people need to know the truth and not what they hear on the nightly news. Pastor, what about the 15-year-old girl who is now pregnant, and her life is going to dramatically change? These are heart wrenching real-life issues, but killing a baby does not solve the problem, and there are enough compassionate organizations available for young mothers to work with, and if needed, make the loving and painful choice of allowing their child to be adopted. I’m so glad God choose to adopt me, even though I was not part of his original family planning. Yes, we need to be just as concerned for the homeless, battered women, refugees, veterans, disabled, widows/er, shut-in, prisoners, and many more. As followers of Jesus, our culture of life, tells us that every human being was created in the image of God and has infinite value. Hopefully the culture we live within has not corrupted our thinking or brought confusion into what we think is right and wrong, especially about life.
