Pastor Joe Dokken
Senior Pastor
I have been serving in full time ministry since 1991 and accepted the Senior Pastor position at Hawthorne Assembly in the spring of 2015. My wife, Janet, and I have 3 adult children, Aaron Dokken, and his wife Katie, of Butler Illinois, Lauren Burg (Dokken) and her husband Matt of Hawthorne Wisconsin and Tim Dokken who lives in Minneapolis. We have been married for 39 years, and have seven grandchildren. Janet is a gifted musician, worship leader, and loves anything green and growing. We enjoy spending time outdoors or around a campfire with our children and grandkids. World travel and missions are key motivators for me, yet the opportunity to hear the stories of others in their journey with Christ is just as rewarding. Chicken Mahkani is my favorite meal, with Chicken Scallopini a close 2nd.
A favorite Bible verse is Philippians 2:13 “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”

Kendra has been attending church for longer than she can remember, and serving the Lord in different capacities for many years. She grew up as the child of an Assemblies of God Pastor and, later, Missionary. She joined the Navy out of high school and “traveled the world”. Now she is enjoying the best adventure of her life as a stay-at-home mom with six kids (and counting). Jon and Kendra have been attending Hawthorne Assembly of God for 10 years now. Becoming the children’s director at Hawthorne Assembly of God was a natural progression from filling in for the previous children’s pastor. Kendra is privileged to teach kids the Bible and wants to introduce your kids to the lover of their souls, Jesus Christ.
A favorite Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 4:6 "For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ"
Lauren grew up as a pastors kid in southern Minnesota. In 2015 she completed the Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge program. After graduating the program she went on to work for MNTC's youth substance abuse prevention program "Know the Truth" giving presentations in Middle and High Schools across the state of Minnesota. She then became a staff for MNTC's women's program working with the clients through their daily lives until 2022. In 2018 Lauren married her husband Matthew. Together they now have 3 daughters. In 2022 the Burg family moved from Minneapolis to Lake Nebagamon to be closer to family. Lauren is currently taking Ministry classes through Minnesota School of Ministry and working on her internship to be a licensed minister.
A favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:18 "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us."
