A Classic Article Updated!
(One of my original articles updated, and with a new focus!)
Janet and I used to attend First Assembly of God in Colorado Springs Colorado. For 5+ years we drove the 12 miles each way, four times a week and greatly appreciated the spiritual development and training we received. We spent 13 weeks learning Evangelism Explosion. Then we spent another week being certified as trainers. We spent every Wednesday night during that time visiting families who attended the church. We had the privilege to pray with a number of people to receive Christ.
Over the next few weeks I will discuss how important it is to have follow-through as it relates to witnessing/evangelism. Eternal Significance requires us to be intentional towards others while helping them develop a healthy and growing relationship in and with Christ.
There is a period of growth with all new believers which requires us to touch base with them on a regular basis. Our gardens are a perfect example of the need for extra care at the beginning and mindful follow-through when needed. Everyone must eat for themselves, but sometimes we have to bring the food to where they can reach it. If a mature Christian says he or she is not being fed, that’s most likely their problem, but when a new believer says it, we need to check our level of involvement and commitment. We need to check our follow-through.
Our recent VBS was a great success, yet a big question remains….how many families are going to end up calling Hawthorne Assembly their home church? Our intentional follow-through will help us connect with the right people who need a church fellowship they can call their own. Ultimately, we want to populate heaven, but belonging to a local church is also very important. I need your help in reaching as many people with the Gospel as possible; hopefully you will be able participate in our next One Minute Witness training planned for later this fall. More information to come shortly! This ongoing training of teaching everyone how to share their story of faith is another tool which can help us in our goal of better follow-through.
One of my favorite follow-through Bible verses is 2 Timothy 2:2, “and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”
